Itching. Every pet owner can relate to this as it is pretty hard to ignore the constant itching.
Watching our pets consistently scratch themselves is really painful to watch. It's frustrating and disheartening for both the owner and the pet especially when there doesn't seem to be any reason for it!
So let's break it down, why is your pet itching? I'll apologize to you all now, the list is endless:
- Food allergies
- Grass allergies
- Environmental allergies
- Hot spots
- Insect bites and stings
And the list goes on.
Often skin issues are miss-understood. Usually we see this as just a “skin issue” when in fact something deeper is going on. The skin is the body’s way of trying to rid itself of an underlying disease.
The skin is the largest organ in the body so therefore it makes sense that it reflects the underlying state of the pet’s overall health.
One of my dogs suffered skin issues, Libi. In her later years she began to get abscesses. It was awful; my heart literally broke for her, she was miserable. After years and years of being fed kibble she developed wheat intolerance. Hence the abscesses, her body was trying to eliminate the build-up through her.
Libi also suffered from the odd ear infection. I now know that the skin and ears are related. The ears are essentially a part of the skin and they usually respond similarly when there is any illness in the body.
As you can see from Libi’s experience, the skin issue was just the tip of the iceberg. The skin issue was showing me that there was so much more going on. In Libi’s case fixing the food fixed everything else.
I often say to people, skin issues are the hardest and can sometimes take the longest to bring back into balance as more often than not there is something deeper going on.
In order to address the skin issues we need to look deeper.
Homeopathy enables us to work at a deeper level; addressing each layer of the iceberg.
